Clinical Lead

Andrea joined the neurosciences ODN as joint clinical lead in May 2021.
Andrea is a consultant paediatric neurologist and is lead for tertiary epilepsy services at Southampton Children’s hospital. Her subspecialist expertise is within complex epilepsy, including ketogenic diet service and epilepsy transition to adult services. Andrea has also worked within the Southampton specialist paediatric sleep medicine service for 20 years. She has supported development of a specialist quaternary narcolepsy service and a tertiary neuro-sleep disorders outpatient service.

Andrea works within a Bristol- Southampton-Oxford network for Children’s epilepsy surgery evaluation as part of CESS, attending a monthly MDT, working collaboratively within a wide clinical network.

Andrea has had specialist complex epilepsy training, having worked at Young Epilepsy, and has had the great opportunity to complete fellowships within the epilepsy programmes both at Great Ormond Street hospital and Melbourne Children’s hospital.

Andrea actively engages in both regional and national British Paediatric Neurology Association epilepsy training and was member, then chair of the organising committee for BPNA epilepsy expert 2014- 2024. She initiated the Wessex Epilepsy interest Group twenty years ago, that is still an active epilepsy training and peer review educational meeting.

When not at work, Andrea is either found travelling or kayaking with her family or, as an enthusiastic gardener, to be found in the garden!
